This forum is being hosted in conjunction with the Zeta Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc’s 76th Second District Conference. Other invited mayors are: Mayor Cherelle Parker (Philadelphia, PA), Mayor Ras Baraka (Newark, NJ), Mayor Eric Adams (New York, NY), Mayor Tim Adams (Bowie, MD), Mayor Tony Vauss (Irvington, NJ) and Mayor Vic Carstarphen (Camden, NJ).
“This unprecedented meeting of mayors and other selected stakeholders such as my fellow New Jersey Mayors Ras Baraka, Tony Vauss and Vic Carstarphen will provide an historic opportunity to discuss strategies and goals for moving forward an America that is diverse, equitable and inclusive for everyone,” said Mayor Green, also a member of the Eta Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. “The forum’s theme: “Saving Our Children, Saving Our Cities,” aligns with one of my administration’s top priorities – youth engagement. As an elected official, I am committed to ensuring that the young voices in my community are heard and respected.”
“Giving our youth a seat at the table has allowed me and my administration to better address their needs and to ensure that their feedback is incorporated into future plans,” added Mayor Green. In all new park redevelopment projects, student input has helped shape the design and infrastructure of the city’s green spaces.
Since taking office, Mayor Green also has created several new initiatives aimed at engaging and empowering our youth:
- At-Risk Workforce Development Programs for youth ages 18-24
- Establishment of the Mayor’s Street Engagement Team
- Expanding recreation programs for high school students, which include Open Gym designed to provide recreation, enrichment and mentorship
- Youth Student Ambassadors Program, which engages high school students in civic life
- Men’s Breakfast Conversation Series that brings together men across the area to strategize goals and initiatives for mentoring our youth
